How It Works:

    • A fine, retractable needle tests the pain sensation or "pinprick" response in areas with suspected numbness.

  3. Symmetric Testing:

    • Sensations are tested bilaterally (on both feet) to detect symmetry or asymmetry in nerve damage.

  4. Baseline Stylus:

    • May include a baseline marker or guide to ensure proper technique and consistency in testing.

How to Use:

  1. Preparation:

    • Apply the filament perpendicular to the skin at various test points (e.g., big toe, heel, metatarsal heads).

    • Hold the filament for 1–2 seconds, then release.

    • Ask the patient to confirm if they feel the pressure.

  3. Needle/Pinprick Test (if applicable):

    • Gently prick specific areas of the foot and ask if the sensation is sharp or dull.

  4. Record Results:

    • Note areas of reduced or absent sensation.

    • Compare results from both feet to detect asymmetry.
